Are You Absolutely Certain?

The following item was published in a newspaper somewhere in the U.S. and posted on the Web a few years back:

A Minneapolis couple decided to go to Florida to thaw out during a particularly icy winter. They planned to stay at the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years earlier. Because of hectic schedules, the husband left Minnesota and flew to Florida on Thursday, with his wife flying down the following day.

The husband checked into the hotel. There was a computer in his room, so he decided to send an e-mail to his wife. However, he accidentally left out one letter in her e-mail address. Without realizing his error, he sent the e-mail.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Huston, a widow had just returned home from her husband’s funeral. He was a minister who had a heart attack and died. The widow decided to check her e-mail, expecting messages from relatives and friends.

After reading the first message, she screamed and fainted. The widow’s son rushed into the room and saw the computer screen, which read:

To: My loving wife
Subject: I’ve arrived
Date: October 16, 2004

I know you’re surprised to hear from me. They have computers here now and you are allowed to send emails to your loved ones. I’ve just arrived and have been checked in. I see that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you then! Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was.

P. S. Sure is hot down here!

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’
will enter the kingdom of heaven,
but the one who does the will of my Father
who is in heaven.
On that day many will say to me,
‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name,
and cast out demons in your name,
and do many mighty works in your name?’
And then will I declare to them,
‘I never knew you;
depart from me,
you workers of lawlessness.’”

Matthew 7:21-23 (ESV)

Do you know for certain where you will go when you die?

Jesus said…

I am the resurrection and the life.
Whoever believes in me,
though he dies,
yet shall he live,
and everyone who lives
and believes in me
shall never die.”

John 11:25-26 (ESV)
